How do you slow the idle on a G16B, my fathers car is idling at around 1,500rpm, the local mechanic he took it to says there is a motor that kiks in to reduce revs ???

When its at running temp it will idle a bit slower, and will drop a bit if left for a while, I will go have a look prob tomorrow, but just wanted any ideas of what to look for.

The idle control valve might be gummed up with crud. It's on the side of the intake manifold closest to the head. If it has a plastic cover on the inlet manifold you'll have to take that off to get to it. It will have a few water hoses going to it as well as a 2-pin electrical connector.

Sorry to hijack the thread a bit but is it normal for my Vit to initially idle at 2500rpm @ startup? It drops to 1000rpm after 5-6 mins but surely the autochoke doesn't need to keep the car at 2500rpm for so long?

Have had a few funny looks from people while sitting at the lights, like I'm getting ready to drag them off or something...

had a similar problem on a baleno g16b it was two things that auto choke was blocked and so was not registering when it was warm (it actually wont get warm as the rad is to big)

the other thing is vacume leaks will cause high idle

Well... 5-6 minutes is quite a long time, but I wouldn't be too worried about it. Just takes her a while to warm up...

suziblu, you say it settles after a bit? so sits high and comes down after 10-15 seconds?

I find when mine does that some carby clean in the throttle body and contact clean in the airflow meter sorts it out, normally do it once a year
