I tightened my fan belt the other night... And now.. For some stupid reason I am leaking coolant from somewhere behind there... :?
Image
This is the best photo I can get of it.. And I am asking on here as I cannot get any closer to it than that..
The leak is quite extreme with it dripping out of there at about 2 or 3 drops per second...
I have a feeling that I may have bumped something when I was tightening the belt.. Any ideas of what it could be??

EDIT: I am asking this because I have never pulled apart this section and I don't know what is under there that could possibly be leaking.

Ok.. Will that be difficult to replace?
How would I best go about it?

Pretty simple to do if you are fairly mechanically minded. You will need to pull the timing belt off first to get the pump off.

Why is that?
I think I will just buy a new water pump than get the Mechanic to swap them over.. I don't really want to play around with the timing belt.

because you have to take it off, so you may as well fit a new one, then you know when it waas fitted & don't have to wory about it for another 100k.

Ok. How hard is it to put the timing belt back on?
I have never pulled one of these off or anything but how difficult is it? Will it just be better to buy the parts then get a mechanic to fit them?

the pump itself will fit, its the pully on the shaft that you may have issues with.. but if your upgrading the alternator to a 110amp and changing pullys then this is not of any concern as you can use the swift pully.. but you will need to change the crank pully, at the same time..

Turn the engine to line up the timing marks BEFORE removing the timing belt - it'll make replacing it so much easier.

you can leave it on and still remove the water pump if you are careful not to slip it off, but it pays to mark it with some whiteout on the cam pulley and the crank just incase, allow a couple of hours at least if you havent done it before.

It's a pretty straight forward job on most zooks.

Got a workshop manual? It explains the exact procedure in there!

swift pump has a different pully bolt pattern and will not allow for the engine fan. you would also need new pulleys as well.

swift 84-89 used the same pump as the sierra , and the pump in the pic is the same pump , its only 89 onwards swift pump that uses the larger flange.

Replacing a timing belt and water pump is a fairly straight forward job for those that know what they are doing, (easy for me I am a qualified mechanic)

However If you have no idea what you are doing in regards to timing belts, i would suggest you get a mechanic to do the job for you. Better safe than sorry.

need to ask more precisely  will it fit without having to change anything else to suit the new pump such as new pulleys, etc etc...?

Good to practise on :D Sierra engines are free spinning aren't they? No valves hitting pistons = good practise :)
