if it were a steel piston it would be a heap less forgiving. the plastic one actually puts up better with shock loading to a point.

been doing some more digging........seems the piston will do that when engaging the diff with one wheel spinning......or 'crash locking' them going around corners.

that's fair enough, but i've never engaged it with a wheel spinning or trying to lock it going around corners.

as i said earlier i've got mechanical sympathy for my 4wd. the plastic looks to be pretty flimsy & it snapped the 4 tabs off one end (not sure what they looked like) & the same end has a crack in the ring, will post up pics in the morning.

You cant argue airlockers with a Company man, they will swear they have never seen that happen before, even when 20 people can line up with teh same problem *cough* Patrol Fronts *cough* :)

nope, while searching for parts TJM said here have 2 pro lockers, see how it goes :)

I believe the parts were got eventually, once they start to slip the shavings were compounding the problem

i think it was just what the local shop said, they did have it for over a month so it could have been back to head office.

all that i know is it's been fixed but for how long?

the plastic seems to be pretty average quality & it still had the dags left on it from casting/moulding.

Hey Joe,

I have a friend who has had this happen to the pistons in both his lockers. He was told the next generation of ARB lockers have/will have a piston-less design. Do you know if this is true?

Also, is this part plastic in order for it to be a 'weak point' to protect other parts of the assembly?
