My aerial on my 93 vit is shagged, have found a replacement but want to know if these are a bitch to replace? i.e getting the cable down to the dash?

i'd say its a bitch, maybe see if you can unplug it from the radio, pull some slack out of the pillar... chop the old aerial off, tape the new plug to the old cable pull it.... just don't pull it like buzooka does

tape some thin wire, like one side of some speaker cable to the old cable (cut the plug off to make it super easy) then you can tape the new lead to it to pull it back through
its pretty easy just dont force anything

good idea... or maybe some really strong fishing line. dunno if it would be tougher, but would have some small stretch in it, which i reckon might help avoid breaking somewhere. I could be wrong though...

Some aftermarket aerials give good reception where you could just mount it under the dash.

Yeah will do the wire/fishing line trick, just seeing if there wasnt any stupid only just bigger than the plug holes to get it through on the way down

Personally, i dont think much of the aerials the Vits or the GV come standard with, they work fine in the city, but once you are out of the city a bit, they dont work so good, they are basically only one piece about 40cm long once you pull them out. the sierra's at least had a 3 section pillar mounted aerial... i am looking at alternative aftermarket aerials, but in no rush just yet...

Instead of speaker wire etc try an old wire coat hanger. I use this all the time, especially when passing wires through the firewall, under carpets etc...

no, sorry, i wasnt very clear what i meant. what i meant was the elasticity of the fishing line might make it less likely to break where you taped it to the old wire... i think you're better off breaking wire/fishing line,etc, that you're using to pull it through anyway than the old/new aerial wire.

Aliens dont use transmitters, they use Telepathy !
But that would be a cool Aerial to listen to radio from all over the world !
