Picked up a gearbox the other day and I cant tell what it's out of, the only stamp I can find on it is a little circle with 2/11 in it . It's a 5 speed sierra box but is there a difference between W/T and N/T in this respect?
Cheers,
Red

Hi-top drover = N/T isn't it? They're a 1.0 or a 1.3?

a 1.0 is only a 4 speed... so its either WT or NT 1.3

NT had less switches than WT.
NT also has different 5th gear ratio to WT.
Externally they are identical and will interchange...
Some years had different spline count on input shaft but I'm yet to discover one after wrecking almost 20 cars.

NT is slightly lower geared in 5th than WT but only by a fly shit.
5th WT is 0.795:1
I think 5th NT is 0.830:1

All the brochures and manuals I have show the 5th gear ratio for ALL Leafy Sierras (and Drovers!) to be 0.793. 1st series Vitara and Coily have 0.864 5th, and these can be swapped into a Sierra box for a slightly better 5th with big tyres.

I was always under the impression that the 0.79:1 ratio was a NT thing, and the 0.83 was a WT onwards thing...
Thought they did it when they put the 3.7 diffs in to make highway cruising RPM comparable to the 3.9 diffed NT with the higher overdrive...
As a side note I've seen some very late leafies and coilys that don't have the little rubber timing bung that likes to go MIA
