im looking at upgrading my headlights, the bulbs i want are 100w, instead of the current 60w... however, i noticed the sierra fuse box says 10 amp fuse for headlights, which is perfect for 2x60w bulbs... however, 2x100w bulbs will use around 8amps each (100W / 12v = ~8, thats correct??), so would i need to switch to a 20 amp fuse to run these? assuming the stock wiring can handle these, but i dont see it being a problem...

just running relays to the 60 watt bulbs makes a huge difference but you will definitely need to make an upgrade loom to handle the power

x3 The Sierra headlight loom is not meant to take that sort of current.

Best bet will be to install a relay near the lights - so that the light switch on the end of the indicator stalk is only switching the relay - not carrying the full current for the upgraded bulbs.

In addition to providing the max current to the lights, it saves your light swich also - Wreckers charge quite a bit for replacement stalks - you have to buy the whole damn assembly.

Why don't you have a hunt around. I fitted a ready made harness to one of my cars, it was just a matter of plugging it in.

Nissan make spotty harness's, plug & play, but for $200 you can buy alot of wire.

Still cheaper than paying an auto sparky if you don't know what you're doing. The harness I bought was much cheaper than that

I can get a head light upgrade loom from work for 300 but can't justify that amount on some wirring for the headlights.

just run some heavier cable to the lights off the battery. (fuse them)
then why not just run relays off the original loom...
wont cost you much and you will get allot more light out of those 100w globes.
12V seems to suffer allot from volt drop

There is a good guide on here to upgrading your head light loom. Think Royce posted it up. One day I may actually get around to making one for the sierra.
