OK so I am wanting to do some radicle upgrades. I have about 18inches off a old w/t chassis and I am wanting to cut my chassis off just in front of the steering box and add on the other part. After cutting and welding it will add between 20 and 25cm to the front of the frame. My plans are to run rear 2" lift Hilux springs takeing out 3 of the leafs. All up it will move my front axil 15 to 18cm forward.
I know it has been done before but I want to know if anyone has every done it and had it enganeered?
I am planning on making my sierra trailer queen in the future but I still need it to drive on road for the short term.
If any of you have done this enganeered or not do you have any pics?
I know I am most likely going to have to do some trimming and beating around the head lights. I know brake lines are moving and drive shaft is going to be needing some attention. what else will need doing? I am SPOA so i have plenty of room for the oil sump. I know hilux springs are 10mm wider. Anything else???
ones I get it all ready to do I will start a build thread.

Research fisch plates, maybe talk to hot rodders to see how they chop/extend their chassies.
Talk to Timmay too, he has done it I think.

I have a guy on my tool rout i talked totoday, he builds race /drag cars and he said it is easy to do but even easier to fuck up. He had no idea about legalitys of it though. I already talked to timmay. I tink I need to offer gifts of shinny zooki parts for him to come help me out....
He doesn't have the right welder at home to help me out. I need either a goooood stik with high temp sticks or a good gas MIG.
My partners Brother is a Boiler maker and can weld anything but he cant bring home a welder to do it. sooo yahh
I will look into the fisch thing

hmmmm I will most probably take you up on that. Honestly looking at it and knowing te work that is needing to go into it I can see atleast one full day of work. But that is if ALLLLL the parts are at hand. So realistly 2 days a week apart. one day to get it all on thhere and set up then a week of ordering other stuff then a day of final building.
But thanks man when do you thing you will have a free day?

If you were to get it ready and tack it all with a stick, much easier to just weld with mig and quicker for whoever is welding it.
Man i would love a mig, but gas hire is an arse ripper!
Talk to lumpapoo, he has both

Yahh see I we have a cheap stik here and I would do that, set it all up and tac it but If I was to do that I would have to get the welder to come to me to finish it. Where ever I start it I will have to finish the job. hmmm we will see. Mabey I will hmmm hang on. I could to that I will just leave the springs in place till I get the it welded on correctly.... Timmy you may take it slow but you fairly bright young spark

I already have a great RUF set up with pleny of flex. I am just wanting to move the diff further forward to get te engine weight behind the diff not over it.
As for the rear. I plan on doing the same thing once the front is done.

Adding 250mm IN FRONT of the steering box seems like a LOT.
If I were going to extend the chassis in order to fit longer springs AND to move the diff forward I'd add the section just behind the steering box to move the whole lot forward.
If you don't move the steering box forward you'll run into all sorts of steering dramas.

Off subject: Moved my nan into a home. I tried measuring curtains the other day for my Nan. Her friend insisted i use cm, "who measures in mm she goes" I was just about ready to stick her cm up her arse freaking pita woman. Try dealing with her while moving furniture!
My rant for this month
Dave, your going to run into many drama's.
Steering
Driveshaft
Body mounts
Tyre clearance
Shock mounts
Less approach angle
Engineering drama's/ If unengineered, its going to stick out like dog balls.

I extended my chassis by welding 100mm x 50mm RHS straight off the end of the existing chassis.
the RT104 carona springs that i picked up fit pretty much perfectly and shift the diff forward 200mm. the springs are 50mm wide too.
to strengthen the joints i was going to fold a 5mm plate down 3 sides to make it fit inside the extended chassis section and cut out the round tube, the raw edge of the folded section would the be welded to the inside of the chassis.
the benefit of this is that you can then bolt a whinch to the plate in future.
extending the chassis this way keep all of your body mounts in the same position.
done right, i think it could be engineered.
once i did this my 35's cleared the rear section of the front uinner guard by approx 50mm.

the cut i am putting on has all the brake line holders steering box and everything still on it smart asses. So that is taken care of. Basicly I cut the old chassis just in front of the bump stops. I could get away with only adding 1500mm. But we will see.
