i removed the cover off my 4x4 gear shifter the other day to find that when im putting the car into 4x4 my front drive shaft instantly stats spinning. when trying to change back from 4x4 low or into low from high it grinds, but if you press the clutch in the drive shaft disengages and you can change the gear. this isnt right does any one know what this problem would be and how can i fix it?

Your problem, clutch is meant to be on the floor during change.

oh ok well with my coily i never had to press the clutch in :S it all makes sense now i feel like a dooch dont i can any one help on my other question

if your hubs are locked and you are moving in a straight line you can move from 2h to 4h with no clutch usually and some could go 4l to 4h but its better to use the clutch as you are engaging gears like a gearbox

stop moving and put the clutch in from high to low or back.

2H to 4H can be done anytime

the thing in my glove box says

2H to 4H can be done while moving as long as wheels are straight, I usually put clutch in aswell to make it easier on the transfer (prob not neccisary)

4H to 4L, should only be done when car is stationary

dont engage 4H or 4L if hubs arent locked in,

and dont engage 4H or 4L one tarmac or hard grippy surfaces when there is no slip allowed (winds the transfer up or something)
