IF you use the correct they shouldn't come loose but really depends on how much load you put on them. Yes you can get all sorts of nuts, large and small flange, countersuck i think too.

Never heard of this tool until Shaggy pointed me towards it. I got really excited about it, looks like a must have item.
Found some pneumatic ones online and really want one of those now. Bit pricey though. Anywhere from $250 to $900. Unless you can find a second hand one.
Might have to go for the basic manual one first

yes they vibrate loose sometimes, you can always just insert the gun and retension it, if its not spinning.
there are heaps of different designs, countersunk, flange, alu,s/s gal etc. i sell these kits pretty often, however ours are made in germany and a lot more expensive than the ones quoted in this thread.
i always say with tools just buy the best you can afford, it is always worth waiting a little longer to get the right tool first. the hand held jobbies are ok for up to 8mm nutserts, but they dont really like doing 8mm. we do a trick one that is a ratchet design, does all sizes, but it costs a lot.
i know i cant even afford the small hand held item.

They usually only come loose when the wrong hole size is used or the material is to thick. They also require some sort of non ceasing lubricant when used in wet areas , this is when gunk or rust will make them spin also , Cheers Paul.

Ok i have been thinking about this..
say i am puting a M6 nutsert in...
if i drill the whole the right size... then get a piece of flat plate with a 6mm hole in it...
a bolt about 30mm long with a nut...
basically if i put the nutsert in the whole, put a nut on a bolt though the plate,
hold the nut still and wind the nut out...
wont this give me the exact same effect?
this is just a idea i have been toying with

something like that jonno, I think that's how my old house mate used to do it at home when he left the nutsert tool at work!

How strong would be say a M10 nutsert through a sierra pannel? would say 5 be able to hold about a metre of tube (32nb) and a bit of flat (6mm)? or would that be too heavy?

Jonno, I think you are on the right track, this is what I will be doing soon too .
but in your post "hold the nut still and wind the nut out..."
should read instead "hold the bolt still and wind the nut out..."
Be interesting to see how much leverage we can get, but a bar on the end of a ring spanner should be plenty.

Yes please! There is already a small hole... I can make it larger if needed (just tell me what size)...
Even if you don't have the nutsert rivet thingys but do have the tool for that size, I'll get a couple of the thingys.
No rush, I've lived without it for this long.

these have been available for many years, and come in some well known canopy kits......here is a well used one of mine....good for tight spots.
