Post subject:  Eaton E-Lockers -Harrop Engineering

Just after Easter I was talking to a chap from Harrop who mentioned they were developing eaton elockers for a Vitara later in the year. Have just followed it up and it seems what they are looking for is someone in Melbourne with a Vitara who is willing to lend it to them for a short while to develop the lockers against. It may be helpful if the owner of the test rig was inclined to wheel the crap out of it to test the elockers.

Anyone keen? Ideally (for us) a 1996 3dr Vitara... we would, but we are in WA and the vehicle is in Queenstown.

I have an idea (and this is completely unsubstantiated) that the test lockers remain in the test vehicle... Just putting it out there.

Must be who ODA is trying to get a GV for fitting. He put it up on the GV forum.

Ive already spoken to him about it as I have what he needs out of the car.... front diff in housing and rear in housing and various ratios.

If these fit the Vitara's then they should also fit the GV. :peaceout:

Hi Christopher
Thank you for your interest in Harrop performance products.
We are currently in discussion internally about the development of an Elocker to suit the Vitara’s.
We already (have) a vehicle lined up if we do go ahead with development, if this falls through I will let you know.
I will also register your interest so that you are made aware if we do develop one.
Regards

That answer is at odds with the email I received. My corro was with the General Manager? Have sent this info back to them and will let them sort it out.

I certainly like the e locker concept.
It would get tested very well.

Why is the wheelbase relevant to the locker?

GV front is different. Vit centre will fit but not the other way.

Just putting it out there. It seems that most Suzuki owners think air lockers are too expensive.

It's even dearer than it looks because you're down a compressor as well

I'm sure it's a great product, just curious as to the size of the market

That's interesting that they have a price as after speaking with them today it was suggested that they were having issues with fitting them to the sierra diffs.... Something about not enough meat in the bearing caps for the locking gear.......

As I find out ill let everyone know.......

My whole car is worth less than that :)

The pricing wasn't for sierra, only indicative that they are dearer than genuine air lockers.

I'm sure half of AZ would like to be the r&d test car for these, but approximately nobody will ever actually buy one.

Steve.

As I've given them the diffs to develop the lockers im a good candidate for the test mule....Fingers crossed.

Any further word on this? We had to bite the bullet and put an ARB up front, but the rear is still open...

Not gonna happen. Only diff they said it was possible in was the XL7 rear but there is no market for it...

Hmm ok, well I have been trying to get a hold of a "KAM" e-locker for quite some time without any luck but I did finally get a hold if them last month, they have just released a new compact e-locker for the landrover defender which is there specialty, they no longer do the old locker for the jimny, but they will hopefully have a new compact e-locker for them early next year so you will have to keep an eye out for them, but I don't think they ever did a vitara though, unlike the old model which required cutting and welding of the axel housing and custom rear axle lengths, the new 1 will be a standard diff centre replacement so no modification hopefully, and if there as cheap as the landrover 1 they should be under a grand to buy!
Here's hoping

Theyve had that up for a while now. But noticed its presale, maybe seeing what numbers of interest they get first.
