Sorry to disappoint, but this will be restored as a very moderate build. It will be as close to stock as possible (apart from the 1.0lt and front Sierra brakes as these are very smart upgrades) My plans are to clean up the rust and re-spray, get rid of the gate fence on the front. with maybe a set of 30inch muddies and a rear Dif lock if I can find something that is totally reversible or a spare dif. I doubt i will use the full roof but instead a bikini top. It will then be wheeled on medium trips.

Does anybody know if that yellow is close to an original colour? I was going to do a whole new colour but painting it yellow will save a lot of time and will also match the engine that Russ has built from the ground up (looks like it is off the Suzuki new parts shelf).

BTW, thank you Russ for the smoothness of the sale (and the beers). Everybody else miss out on a great deal for a very straight LJ and I am glad you are all so slow Armsup .

That's awesome Mud-Muncher.

You should be able to use a lock right for a 1.0 litre.

Good luck with finding one. I'm pretty sure I emailed every store who mentioned them on the internet, even quite a few who didn't mention them and got nothing aside from one mob who wouldn't post outside of the U.S. (Keep a car part for a car never sold there and refuse to post it outside of the country, real smart.)

I eventually lucked out and asked a member on here if they were willing to sell theirs and they were. :D

Aside from the 1520 lockrights your only locker options are a minispool from Japan or welded. You'l need a Stockman diff/axles if you want a lockright, 22 spline rears on the early LJ80s are meant to be pretty weak. Stockman rears are far from weak. I doubt you'l need a locker anyway, my stocker LJ81 (bartreads and all) is way more capable than my Sierra on 30" KM2s. :D

That yellow looks original.

Have fun with it mate, looks like a nice one! :)

Thanks everyone for the advice! I am brand new to the world of LJ's But have been keen on them for a while. I was thinking bar treads (i love the old school look) but i have also heard horror stories about there lack of road grip. As I said i want this car for medium outings as much as I want it with a surfboard on the back cruising down to the beach, now I just have to learn how to surf LOL. I want to keep it light and relative reliable (as far as a 30yo car can be). It is kind of odd, I feel like I need to keep this car stock, clean and straight as a modern history item. If it was a more common junker I would of just chucked some different tyres on it got it Rego'd and wheeled the shit out of it.

I used to feel like that about LJs too.

My bartreads are great on dry roads (not that I've really put any miles on them). On soaking wet tarmac they're horrific, I'm genuinely surprised so many LJs, series Land Rovers and Jeeps survived!

I'd second that. I drove Piggles for about 20m on bar treads and front drums and I'm genuinely surprised anyone lived through the 70's.

how about getting some of those 7.00 16 creepy crawlers from Japan
