Hey gents, almost finished my project LWB (yes stekky, pics are on their way) but ive hit a problem with the brakes, they worked before, all i have done is installed Vitara calipers & extended brake lines but now i cant seem to get pedal pressure.

Ive bled brakes before on many cars but this one has me stumped. There are no leaks and i am using the following technique:

-Add some fluid to a bottle
-Attach hose to bleed nipple and place in bottle
-loosen bleed nipple and have a mate pump the brakes until all bubbles are gone
-keep topping up reservoir.

I did this from back to front a few times now and the pedal only gets hard after pumping it 5-6 times, then goes soft again.

think you doing it wrong.

your supost to losen the bleed nipple, press the pedal slowly till it hits the floor. then tighen the nipple back up then take you foot of the pedal, keep doing this untill no bubbles come out.

ok thanks, will try that. I did a upgraded the brakes on my MR2 to 315mm lexus rotors and r33 calipers and used the same technique ive been using, worked fine :S

Make sure you don't loosen the bleed nipple too much or it will suck air back in through the threads.

i read somewhere that the vitara calipers need to be rotated or something to bleed them when fitted to a sierra...

Atari's point is a valid one. Is the bleed nipple mounted at the dead top of the caliper? If not, you'll always get an airpocket above the nipple.

My rear disk conversion locates the bleed nipple behind the diff at 90 degrees. This stops them from bleeding properly without removing and rotating the caliper to the top.

A trick I was shown a long time ago was if you loosen the nipple a few threads then have some one hold there finger over the hole firmly. then have a second person pump the brakes. It is a bit messy but it works. It pressurises the system enough to push the air through.

how & why do i rotate the calipers? do they sit on different angle in sierra?

thats a good price for callipers too compared to prices I was quoted, dont know if you would really need the booster

as to fitting, yes they fit, but vitaras normally have the caliper at about the 10 oclock position so once up the top like on a sierra you cant bleed them, the solution is to slide the caliper back and bleed it then bolt it into place

the difference between the solid vitara (pretty much the same as sierra) and the vented wagon brakes is massive, make sure they are the vented ones of a 1.6 too, the ones meant for 16" wheels wont fit but you already know that :wink:
