| Post subject: | seperating a CV |
The passenger side CV in my sierra is starting to get noisy so i think its time to carry a spare with me when i go wheeling. Ive got a few but they are attached to NT axles and my zooks a WT. Now ive never had to fix a CV so any tips on seperating them and putting them together would be awsome. Cheers B4T |

Do thay come off?? It`s been to long since i`ve been that deep in a sierra. Type 1 you have the outer case, 5 to 6 ball`s in a race, then the inner race, turn tha cv so the outer case touches the axle, on the opposite side were the inner race is sticking out, hit with hammer. Type 2 look round the axle & inner race for a cir clip, spread said clip & tap inner race with hammer. Makes life easier if the axle is in a vise, change it before it snap`s. hope that help`s |

anyway to physically tell the condition of a cv without actually putting it in the diff? like i pulled it out of a set of diffs that i have never had running, there is no noticable cracks or anything but what causes a cv to click? and can it be seen? |

Grab the axle in 1 hand & cv in the other, twist R & L hands in opposite directions, you should`nt feel any movement . |

yer Built4thrashing, once you break a CV your axle will be stuffed aswell. So if you want to carry a spare, carry the whole CV and axle to suit. |

Was hoping to just carry the CV as having to carry both front axles and all the other recovery and emergency spares gets a bit bulky. What tends to bust first? The CV or the end off the axle? |

when the C/V busts it spins on the axle and stuffs the spline. |
