i am planning on doing a 1.6 conversion just wanted to make sure that i have got everything covered and some tips would help. im planning i buying a 8v short motor from suzisport (has anyone bought one of these are the ok, or if anyone knows where to get them from perth) and using my 1.3 head i know u need the adaptor kit i have a lift so i should be ok with the 1.6 sump and im happy to make the 1.3 starter fit. will my carby be ok its just a stock 1.3. so any tips would be great and if you have done the conversion how did u find it. thanks |

i will have a whole 1.6 carb motor on the weekend, if you can find decent freight i would say you'll get it cheaper than suzisport. |

thanks I have done this conversion. Works well. Heaps of torque to push big wheels with standard gears. I use the 1.3 carby, and almost everyone I have spoken too says this is the way to go. There is something to do with faster gas speed through the carby due to it being smaller, giving you more torque and better response. I am sure an expert on heere can tell you how it works. I had my carby re-jetted after the conversion (105 to a 141), but wasn't happy with it. I went to a carby shop and it was rebuilt with standard jets, and after correct tuning it went much better. The next conversion I will do I plan to use an 8V Vitara head instead of a Sierra one, but will still use the Sierra carby. |

just wondering why would you want to put the 1.6 head on there doesn't the 1.3 work just as good well same power |

I have also recently done this one. Used BenT's adaptor kit from NZ, beautifully made. Use Suzisport's oil pickup adaptor bush and O ring-IMPT! I have a 32/32 Weber , Camtech Stage 1 cam and headers on a 1.3 8v. head. Torque is amazing. Economy little different from 1.3. Good luck. |

Did the Suzuki engineers use the wrong head on the 1.6????????? Must of been a conspiracy to slow us down. |

I know when the forced induction question is raised people mention the g16 head flows better as it has bigger exhaust valves. Also the 8 vlave g16 in stock form has a more ideal compression ratio for forced induction. I'm not sure what the compression ratio is with the 1.3 head. I doubt the difference in power between the 1.3 head and the 1.6 head on a naturally aspirated motor would be noticeably different though. |

Combustion chamber sizes on 1.3 and 1.6 heads are the same so swapping them should have no affect on compression ratio. 16v heads are a different story though. |

No Suzuki did not get it wrong. Damo is right, 1600 head and 1300 has the same size combustion chamber size there is no compression ratio advantage to be gained. Yes Hybrid, they do flow better and this is relative to performance in any application not only for forced induction. If you believe that running a standard 1300 head, carbie and inlet manifold on a 1600 block is as good as or better than running a complete 1600 you may have been misled by people with an interest in making a sale. It makes the conversion easier and cheaper and that is the bottom line. Since it is just the 1600 bottom ends that are being sold for conversions have you ever wondered what happens to all the 1600 heads, carbies and manifolds? - they are sold on (at inflated price) as a performance upgade for people with a 1300 head on a 1600 block. Is it a widely done conversion - yes it is. Will it go better than the worn out 1300 you are replacing - yes it will. Will it go as well as a complete 1600 - no it wont. This debate has come up a bit, if you think I am talking crap, throw your car on the dyno and see for yourself. |

Considering how similar the heads are it has to be the inlet side hardware that makes the difference. Even the stock exhaust manifold on the 1.6 looks better to me. |

I have a complete 1600 to go in another Sierra. I have heard from people who have done a complete 1600 conversion that the difference is 'noticeable' over a 1300 top on 1600 bottom. I have tried everything short of a new cam (and wasted a few $$$) to get more power out of a 1.6block/1.3 head combo on my other Zuk. |
