| Post subject: | SJ50 Windscreen replacement |
I need a new windscreen in order to get the SJ50 project vehicle road worthy and legal. It has had a stone chip in the centre of the screen and tried some repair glue / chip repair and it didn't work at all so think the 1989 screen maybe too old for the new laminate glue used, however my usual drive vehicle being a 2011 VW Tiguan also didn't work with the chip not filled/ hidden - it was worth a shot but still need a new front windscreen Will the later model coily screens fit out of a SJ80? or are they different size/shape, what about the SJ413/ SJ410 windscreens and are the different body styles running the same or different windscreens in a ute, a soft top and a tin top?? Please advise if you know what screens fit and what ones do not. Thanks Andy |

If it’s a soft top just remove the windscreen surround and take it to a glazier and get one cut out of laminate. |

I can't confirm that the SJ80 windscreen is the same size as the SJ50/50/70 however I'm almost certain that an SJ70 I worked on years ago had an SJ80 screen in it. (it had the mask around the edge that only SJ80 screens have) I can confirm that all SJ40/50/70 screens are the same regardless of body type or model. |

Thank you Steve It is a tin top so can't remove and take it in, and I now know what I am looking for, and the chances of the local windscreen supplier having one will be slim to anorexic. |

They're not hard to find locally. Typical pricing is AU$140 - $180 You could even try dealer as the farmworker (Maruti Gypsy) was sold recently and so there will be parts supply. These use the old style rubber seal, not the bonded SJ80 screen. |

They have two options listed One listed under 91 -98 Sierra or Jimny $286 with a tint strip Or 81-90 Sierra, Jimny or Farmworker with or without tint strip $241 I did get one of the $241 for a mates 87 SJ413 and he said one corner is not quite right but still fits. My 1991 SJ70 had a coily style windscreen with the 1" black strip around the edge. It blocks quite a bit of vision, I would not recommend it. I bought a new windscreen 2 years ago for au$160 and installed it myself. Very easy job, especially with the roof off. Put the rubber on the windscreen, plonk it on the seam at the dash, a bit of soapy water and some string and it darn near installs itself. I have done a few of them though. |

Thanks Jezzer I have been told the SJ80 ones have an edge to them, and the second one mentioned out of the 87 SJ413 - will it pass a WOF? I don't mind swapping it for my one with a stone chip in the middle if it is going to be off road only, I'm tempted by the chip repair people who inject the resin, but not sure if it will work on the suzuki screens which are older than modern laminated screens. |

The chip repair will depend on the location of the chip. There’s a measurement for the driver’s vision area for the warrant that can have no chips or repairs. With the size of the Suzuki screen it’s almost half of it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The chip is in line with the gear stick, so right in the middle of the screen, once closer to being road worthy I will consider options then, and it is slowly creeping up. I found new screens for $300, so either that or the $245 one you have access to are my options if the chip is not fixable. Thanks Andy |
