G'day all, my 1982 LWB NT has a gnarly clunk in the rear end when changing gears and reversing, even when putting through town, it sounds like the diff but we pulled it out and found nothing (sun gears slightly worn) so we put a LJ80 4.9*1 diff in and fix it a bit, but now its even worse, we had a little geez underneath and found the drive shaft looks to be the issue, it has quite a bit of backlash from the slip yoke. if anyone knows or had this issue, some help will be super handy! thanks.

I've got the same issue in my LWB Sierra. In my case, it's the drum brake / hand brake on the back of the transfercase that is making clunking noises. I'm planning to pull it apart and rebuild it. I hope that fixes my clunking issue.

Yes. 1.0 litres have small driveshafts which are prone to wear. Another source of clunking can be from a cracked/distorted axle housing at the U bolts 1.0 litres are prone to this. Every LWB 1.0 I've seen has required the housing welded up.
