I’m in the process of putting a Sierra transfer and non vvti gearbox into a 2005 vvti jimny. I think I have the transfer bits and pieces sorted, and I thought the gearbox was a simple bolt in. However, watching a video on YouTube I learned that some people use a gearbox to engine adaptor, which I hadn’t come across before. I did find one thread mentioning this as well with dead links to where they used to be for sale at, but for the life of me I can’t find that thread now either.
So there’s a bunch of threads explaining how to convert a vvti engine to put into an older non vvti jimny, but the gearbox to engine part seems a bit grey to me.

Do I need a vvti engine to non vvti gearbox adaptor? If so, who stocks them?
Any other tips from those who have done this before would be appreciated

I think you need to clarify what you consider to be a "non-VVTI" gearbox.

Jimnys without VVTI can have either a G13bb or an M13a engine, a 2005 VVTI Jimny will have an M13a engine, I would not expect there to be any issues bolting the box off of a non-VVTI M13a engine onto a VVTI M13a. Bolting the box off of a G13bb onto an M13a is going to be an entirely different matter.

What did the "non-VVTI gearbox you have come out of? What engine was it originally bolted to?

It was out of a G13BB jimny. Is it as simple as just switching bellhousings?

No. The bellhousing is not removable.
