Post subject:  Baleno Maruti Conversion Gearbox Mount Issue

I’m putting a 1.6L baleno G16b into a WT 1.0L LWB Maruti. From reading all the threads I thought with my combination the 1.3L gearbox could be bolted on to the engine (with the BenT adapter), swing the whole lot onto the chassis and use the gearbox mounts to inform me where the engine mounts go.

However, that doesn’t work. I’ve got the swift thermostat housing hard up against the firewall and the gearbox mount is still out. The shifter housing is also contacting on the tunnel up top.

The rhetoric is that the Maruti 1.0L gearbox and 1.3L Sierra gearbox is externally very similar/the same but the two examples I have are pretty different. I think my issue is that I’m trying to use the Maruti gearbox mount and that it is potentially shorter than the 1.3L mount? I don’t have a 1.3L mount here, does anyone have a spare one or one in a car to measure? Looking for the distance between the the bolt holes as per the picture attached. The Maruti one measures about 130mm. Also shown is the clearance issues in case I’m onto something else wrong.

I'm not much help, I thought maruti/1 litre cars had completely different crossmembers and mounts. (Your gearbox crossmember mount is different to my 1.3 mount)

Anyway, my 1.3l mount measures the same 130mm if that helps.

Thanks Beery, looks like I’m having similar problems to what was mentioned in this thread. There’s a bit of back and forth about the gearbox being the same and different. https://www.auszookers.com/forum/viewto ... 1&start=30

Thanks for the confirmation of the mount size, saves me diving down a rabbit hole. I’ll make an adapter plate to push the mounting holes forward roughly 20mm.

Liberated a piece of steel from the scrap bin so it’s about 6 shades of overkill. Slotted the mount on the chassis which probably isn’t necessary but will help with install. Adapter goes above the chassis mount which will slightly change the jackshaft angle and put the shifter up further into the cab. I don’t foresee any major issues with that and I’ve got the clearance I need in the engine bay.
