Post subject:  M series Sierra swap

Been an about 6 months since I started this swap quick run down of what’s needed.
You will have to wreck a non vvt jimny to get the gearbox and engine bolt on’s.
The m series will bolt to the 1.3 chassis using the jimny motor mounts and Sierra chassis mount you have to make a jimny/ Sierra hybrid gear box by fitting the shifter forks and exterior housing to the jimny box.
Throttle cable I used a late model gypsy one and the clutch cable was Sierra with a bit of the Jimny cable at the gearbox to hold support the Sierra cable.
You have to put a t pice in the heater hoses to make it flow through this is important or you will cook the engine on its first drive.
I used a M18A from a Liana and modified the wiring myself.
Keeping all the vvt in place.
Radiator I originally used the sierra one and it was ok for normal driving but under extreme load the temperature would rise.
So I swapped it out for stock jimny radiator with a high flow thermo fan which dose the job fine also put a high flow thermostat in.
Air box is std 1.3 Sierra with the I take tube 1/2 jimny and 1/2 late model gypsy.
Power is extremely good and motor is so smooth. Best mod I’ve done to the car.
Gearing is std wide tack diff gears with 6.5:1 transfer gears and non vvt jimny gears box this combination works well and I can travel on the Hwy at 110km with rev’s at about 3700rpm.
Any questions please ask.

Can you explain this part a bit more in detail. So leave the Sierra 1.3 mounts welded to the chassis and the Jimny engine mounts that are bolted to the engine work ok?

What did you modify? Did you keep the complete loom (deleting things not required)? Did you need to use the key barrel due to the immobiliser?

Did you need a body lift to fit under the bonnet?

I see you used a thermo fan but could you use an engine fan/shroud if you wished?

Is there any modification to jackshaft length or gearbox lever hole?

What combination of radiator hoses/heater hoses did you use?

Just a bump. I've just bought the Jimny I swapped an M18A into a few years ago as a donor vehicle for my sons ute project.

You will also need a donor M series Jimny to make it work
