Gday,

Ive just bought a 1997 SJ80 convertible for my son and I for a bit of fun........Its going to be used for beach fishing and something to run to work in when its too cold and wet to ride and will be a lot more economical than my 80 series Landcruiser.

BUT......I have a problem
I cant get it into low 4......
The lever moves easily between 2 and h4 but doesn't want to go to the right for neutral or low 4????
How far do they usually move?
Is this common?
Is there an easy fix?

Cheers

If it's like mine was, the transfer sheet can bust causing it to not move. Cheap easy fix

Coil transfer cases don't have a shift sheet.

If you just bought it and dont know its offroad history it could not of been in 4wd for some time. Just needs to be used now and again to free it up.

I know this an old thread but Gwagensteve you are the only one that would know something about this.
My SJ80 transfer case got stuck in 4H. Tried going back and forth in loose ground it didn't help. And I had the bright idea to loosen up screw number 13 on the tranfer box and moved the shift stik. I got it moving to N and 4L but when I screw it back in I heard a grinding noise and the screw was filled and fork shaft is loose.
