Do these have any love for an oem jobbie? Or is dayco etc ok?
Given the unknown history, and the previous findings of sludge and no thermostat. I’m leaning towards genuine just to remove any doubt when it over pressurises from running a bit hotter.
I got some genuine suzuki thermostats for mine. I'm a little meh on them. I had one stick shut when it was first installed and they're a bit inconsistent but you'll only notice that if you've got an aftermarket temperature gauge. I bought a Tridon high flow for my next Suzuki thermostat but I haven't tried it yet. The genuine thermostat housing gaskets are really nice though, they're paper with a sealing rubber ring molded on, so far I've been able to to remove and refit them without damage or leaks.
By contrast the genuine one in my landcruiser opens at exactly 82° every time like it's meant to and closes again at 79° the gauge. Once warmed up the gauge just bounces between 79-82 even in the dunes on a hot day which is nice. It must spring open to give enough flow to maintain the temp where as the suzuki ones seem to open very slowly.
