I'm replacing the bearings in my Escudo box with a kit from RA made by USA Standard Gear.
The centre bearing on the countershaft that I have removed is a roller type, Suzuki part number 09264-25005.
The only bearing of the same external dimensions in the kit, and the only one left as all the others have places to go, is a ball bearing type.
Surely a roller bearing shouldn't be replaced by a ball type? Or am I missing something?
I would approach the kit manufacturer but I suspect the likelihood of the sales department having someone that has much tech knowledge is minimal, whereas someone here may have done a few gearbox rebuilds and may be able to comment.
If anybody has made such a bearing change from roller to ball I'd be interested to hear how you got on once the box was back in use.
Thanks.

Have you considered the possibility that the kit you have is not for the box you have, and the solution is to source the correct bearing? One of the quirks with sourcing parts for the Escudos (or any other used JDM vehicle for that matter), is that they are often different to the export market vehicles, and those differences are not always documented.

Another possibility is that someone packing the kit may have inadvertently put the wrong part in.

Looking at the images of the bearing it would appear that the original bearing rides directly on the countershaft rather than having an internal race, and whilst I've seen roller bearings like that, I don't think I've ever seen a ball bearing like that (maybe on a pedal cycle) - do the inner dimensions match?

Gidday Fordem,
Thanks for the info.
It's certainly a possibility that I just have the wrong kit! Getting parts for the Escudo from the US is always a lottery, and since you sometimes win and sometimes lose it could go either way. Trouble is the pricing of parts from the states makes it worth the lottery even if you do lose sometimes.
The kit was listed for a 95 Sidekick, searching the parts catalog for this vehicle shows the same roller bearing part number as the Escudo, but the photos on RA (and the kit manufacturers website) appear to show the bearings I received. Based on this it would appear a ball bearing is supplied to replace the roller.
I neglected to mention the ball bearing that was supplied has an inner race, vs the roller (original) type not having one as you noted. The dimensions of the ball bearing are the same as the roller.
The most correct answer is exactly as you say, to source the correct part.
I'll email the kit manufacturer and see if they can shed any light. I'd still like to know if swapping this particular bearing for a different type is a common thing.
