Hi all, My Jimny has been getting less and less happy over about a 12month period, starting with installing a snorkel. I had an issue three weeks ago with a check engine light, and running on 3 cylinders. Mechanic put new leads, plugs and coil pack in and it runs again with no light. The code at the time was P0134 O2 sensor no activity, so it has a new O2 sensor in it now too. But I'm still having issues with cold starts. Car runs great once it's going, but won't start on My attempt except the first kick. Sometimes I can get it to start by pumping the throttle. If it does, it's super rough for about 60 sec, revs around 200-300 before gradually picking up. Anyone like to chip in on what to I try first? I'm sick of taking it to the mechanic and forking out cash for no results. I live in regional QLD and there's no decent mechanic for 2.5 hours. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk |

Compression test? Is it low on power? |

hang on a minute, it threw a code for no O2 sensor activity and the mechanic put plugs, leads and a coil pack in it? Was it a suzuki genuine coil pack? I believe aftermarket coil packs are garbage. pumping the throttle won't make any difference to an EFI car. The start map is predetermined. If its not throwing any codes at all, first cab off the rank would be fuel pressure. |

Yeah aftermarket coilpacks are always junk compared to genuine, but genuine cost $$$. I agree with steve re: checking fuel pressure. A fuel pump dying a slow death will do strange things and in my g series jimny threw a myriad of oddball codes. |

Is a fuel pump relatively cheap? I can hear it running before start, and the car runs fine once it's going... Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk |

I'm planning to have a look under the cover tomorrow to see if I can tell. Will let you know. Was it a suzuki genuine coil pack? Just in case anyone's reading this in the future. I found myself a copy of the service manual for my car and read the chapter on ignition. The "much worse" bit turned out to be my fault, I didn't put the leads back the right way. I grabbed a multimeter and tested the leads and coil packs. Coil packs came up fine, but the leads were way off spec. I replaced them with a new set of OEX leads that actually exceeded spec and now she's running beautifully again. Still a bit fussy starting sometimes, but I think I'll just have to wait until something breaks to find out the reason now. |

Update: Jimny was still less than perfect. I decided to test and replace IAC valve. Tested following procedure in service manual, definitely faulty, but is it causing the issue? Replaced with new IAC valve from ebay, seems to be back to her old self again, idle is rock steady and starting nicely again. Thinking of doing a full write up since I couldn't find any decent info on the procedure, I took lots of photos. Do you think that'd be worthwhile? |
