Hello Auszookers,
I'm new to the Zooki world and needed some help with a Suzuki Sierra.

It has a G16A 8V carby engine.

It was sitting around for 4 years after a blown head gasket and now I've started to restore it.

My issue is that it will start first go every time, idles smooth and even can rev it up to 4K, BUT when I try to drive it, it misses and splutters as the revs pick up over 3K. Anything under 2K is fine.
Funny though when I rev it and hold it at 4K... after a few seconds it slowly start to splutter and die down to idle. So I let it settle down and it idles smooth again.

List of things done:
1. replaced head, intake and exhaust gaskets - no longer blowing out the white smoke ( :peaceout: )
2. removed and cleaned fuel tank and blew out lines
3. cleaned the carby (it was really bad) and replaced all gaskets
4. new plugs
5. Checked/cleaned cap, rotor and all leads, changed coil
6. adjusted the air mixture, cold and hot screws (@850rpm)
7. set ignition timing (@8-10 deg) and valve clearances
8. compression test 165 - 170 hot
9. carby pump has a nice clean fuel stream when I pull on the throttle - so pump is working

Just looking for some guidance from anyone with some experience. I think it's almost there.

thanks...
marc

This suggests a fuel flow issue - you don't have enough flow to sustain the engine running no load at 4000 rpm - so it slowly drains the carb float bowl.

I notice the list of things done does not include a new fuel filter.

Throw carby in the bin and slap a $80 ebay 4k corolla carby on. This will be the cheapest and quickest way assuming as mentioned your fuel filter and fuel are not bad.

Ok, I was trying to avoid going straight to replacing the carby....
I did replace the fuel filter twice though.

Is it possible for the fuel pump not to keep up even though it pumps at crank?

Also, forgot to mention that after road testing the plugs are always black and sooty....so I thought that suggested running too rich and not enough air or spark to burn the mixture.

Also, didn't think it could be the bowl running out of fuel cause the carby pump does spray a nice clean squirt of fuel down the throat when I pull on the throttle. Hmmm.

Once the carb starts playing up there is normally no coming back and sitting dry for years would have dried alot of seals ect..

I assume unless you're on a dyno you're not seeing that under load though.

Ok, I'll get a new pump and see what that does first.

If that doesn't work, I'll get a 4K carby. Is there any particular 4K model criteria and any mods that I should know about. I think I could work out the obvious ones.

Could the sooty plugs be related to potential ignition issues??? Just want to eliminate the ignitor module, coil and all that jazz.

I'd be happy to solve this by replacing the carby. Armsup

There are some how to threads on the 4k carby
You will need studs to thread into the manifold an accelerator cable bracket and a cheap manual choke cable (generic).
Its a pretty simple job and given the cost and reliability of rebuilding the stock unit the 4k carb makes more sense

I'm seeing heaps of 3k setups and available kits for the suzuki samurai. Why are we going for the 4k carby?
Is it just because of the 1.6L engine?
