My Sierra has leaked oil from the gearbox since I got it so I finally got around to ordering a new seal from the Suzistore. The old seal was difficult to remove as it had been "glued" in there somehow. After ages cleaning the seat I found it was damaged and decided to go through with installing the new seal anyway. As you can expect it pissed oil and the seal came out of the seat and was damaged. After sourcing another at Repco (a Kelpro part) I tried glueing in the seal using rtv. It was an improvement but still worse than the original leak. I have another genuine seal on the way. At this point if I can get it back to a slow leak I would be happy. I really don't know what to try next. I know using rtv isn't a good idea, but it doesn't look like the seal can stay in it's seat without some help. Any ideas?

Is there a groove in the output shaft where the lip of the seal rides? If so that may have been where your "slow" leak was.

It's not uncommon for folks here to put a thin film of permatex grey on the outer "rim" on the seal, and I did come across one case where some idiot put it on the inside of the seal as well - fortunately he used a thin enough film that it just filled the concave space in the seal and didn't adhere to the shaft.

I normally locktight my rear main seals and cam/crank seals.
But just a thin smear around the seal is enough, ive had a few cheapie seals pop out over the years and this prevents that, they are still easy enough to remove.
Also id try a genuine seal if your having issues

OK cheers. Thanks for the ideas. Have a genuine seal on the way. There is no groove where the seal rides either.

Loctite did the trick. Thanks. Still leaks. Will have to keep an eye out for another gearbox.

Does your uni with the female spline end have a plug in the middle of the Uni?

If not, Oil can come down the output spline and out the middle of the uni.

I have experimented before..

Or you can just replace the extension housing on the gearbox . pretty sure i would have one in my shed if you want to go down that route.
