Hi there. I unplugged my ecu with battery connected. The ABS connection as well. Now it cranks but can't start. 3.2L V6 2008 Grand Vitara. Have had the ECU checked in Brisbane. It is ok. I have the blue key symbol so it recognises the keys. I can't get coms from the ECU when I plug in my Bosch ODBII Scanner. I am stuck. can anyone help. any ideas. Car was working fine until I unplugged the ECU and ABS unit. Why I did it, dont ask! Foolish I know. But the ECU is ok. Have I blown something else. A wire even. Have checked all the fuses and an Auto Electrician has checked the relays but can't get it going! Any help would be appreciated. U miss driving my baby! Thanks |

Do you get the check engine light when you switch the ignition on? Were you at any time prior to this able to get codes from the ECU using that Bosch scanner? The fact that you have no coms with the ECU is suggesting the problem lies in that direction, either defective or no power, which might be fuse related but, you say you've checked those - did you check with a meter or an eyeball? |

Originally, was was trying to reset the ECU because I had the "service ESP system" light come on, only when in low range. car functioned normally otherwise. Light went off when back in high range. I unplugged ECU and ABS connection. then reconnected. hasn't started since. the engine light wasn't on previously but is now. ESP light is flashing. "system check" is flashing in stereo. I can't get comms from ECU from my scanner, nor can my Auto Electrician. all fuses and relays seem fine. cranks but wont start. Im stumped. Auto Electrician is checking power and continuity. A strange one. Have bought another exact ECU. same motor. same serial No. had the key coded to it. blue key flashing. installed it and tried it. still no good. Hey if I get it going, I'll have a spare ECU! |

In my research, I heard that a weak battery can potentially not provide enough current for actual spark while cranking. So based on this I put in a near new, bigger fully charged battery. to no avail! But either way, all was good before I unplugged the ECU and ABS unit connections. Foolish, I know. |

I did something similar once. Removed a fuse within 30sec of turning off the ignition. The ecu engaged the immobiliser but I also ended up with some damage to the ecu. First try might be to get the ecu key and immobiliser reprogrammed. Try contacting Dr Suzuki for a real diagnosis. I'll message you his details. |
