I never believed in these accessories until i fitted one to my Pajero Io years ago as a joke - blow me they work! Stiffer more direct steering on rough roads and hard cornering. Given the Grand Vitara is just as much a "car" as the io this was the first thing I threw on. Less roll on hard dips and corners noticeable straight away. This is the bar for the 2.0L GV - clears the 2.4L engine no worries and aside from some minor adjustment of the cable harness retainers, is a direct fit.

Interesting. Is it more of an on-road handling improvement, or does it help with rigidity when on trails as well, like corrugations? Also, how much would it weigh? Not much I am sure, but I know when I am loaded up for a trip I would be pushing GVM, so I have gotten really miserly with the mods now

It weights 5kg tops - very stiff but light.
When I ran one on the io it made a huge difference to rough roads at speed and large tyres - made the steering more direct as the struts moved around a lot less. It also made it handle better with bigger rubber on the blacktop as the wider contact patch gave me better grip on cornering but flexed the body more than it was originally meant to expect. Standard was 215/65-16 25psi and I was running 225/75-16 40psi.
So far the GV3 ran straighter with less kick through the nasty dip-n-turn road on my work commute where you load one corner with a lot of weight hard at speed and expect it to grip and handle.
People rag on them with "how can something that light make a difference" without realising your strut tops are a few thicknesses of 1.1mm sheet steel with spot welds cantilevered off the front wings - anything will make a difference.
Frankly for $180 delivered its a cheap throw-on that will deliver throughout the life of the body

Interesting that a strut brace was a factory fit in the 1998-2005 GV, but left off for the 2005on versions. Rgs, Michael

Different construction methods - SQ series is body on frame construction and the strut towers mount to the frame and have very little lateral bracing, whereas the later JB & JT series are monocoque construction in which the firewall acts as a brace the inner wing panels. There is so much flex on an SQ strut towers that if you remove the brace with the weight of the vehicle on the suspension, it cannot be reinstalled - you pretty much have to jack the front end up.
I suspect that particular bar was made by UltraRacing (out of Malaysia), you should be able to find it on ebay.
