| Post subject: | G13 tcase into M13A VVT Jimny |
Longtime professional lurker of Auszookers, I figured I might drop in some mod info for anyone considering an even cheaper (and very capable) option than the auto tcase swap into their vvt jimny's. I've written up a post on facebook, so I'm pretty much copy and pasting it from there. After a solid month post g13 transfer case swap into my m13 Jimmy, I can confirm that the increase in power to the tyres is very, very real. Its an affordable swap and I've never had any chain slip issues. Overall increase is about 30%. Yes, thirty goddamn percent. The 31s feel like 205s again. Parts required: 1 x M13A VVT Jimny 1 x G13 Transfer Case That's it. Seriously. 1) Remove m13 tcase. Achieve this by removing the side mounts from the frame, (you may need to disconnect the tcase side as well, depending on how much of a hassle it is to get out), disconnecting the boffin wizadry, and disconnecting the input and output shaft mounts on the tcase. 2) Remove tcase gearstick cover. Machete your way through the carpet (or similiar method) to access the cover; 4 x phillips head screws hold it in place. You now have a fresh, factory finish hole in the floor. 3) Remove side mounts from the m13 tcase and have them placed under the car for ease of access when you're muscling the g13 into position. 4) Muscle g13 tcase into position. If you have a mate, have them sit in the car and hold onto the stick through the hole. If you don't have a mate, uh... https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/lonelin ... ion-mental… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 5) Install g13 tcase. Achieve this by loosely installing the side mounts first, followed by the shaft inputs and outputs. You WILL NOT require a spacer as the slip joint on the FWD driveshaft won't extend an intolerable amount. 6) Install the speedo cable. It is the only boff wiring that will need to be installed, the rest is for the m13 tcase warning/indicators on the dash, remove/bag these to desired outcome. Congratulations Glorious Leader! You now have a functioning manual shift transfer case installed in your M13A VVT Jimny! Notes: Initially this mod was only carried out as a stop-gap measure to screwing around more with the drive train, which still may occur a few years from now. You will notice that there is now a hole in your floor where you can see the uni-joint spinning around at a gazillion rpm (I will not take responsibility if you get the Darwinian treatment from dropping anything down onto the proverbial mulcher you now have access to). Cover this up with the g13 rubber boot, or make your own. Mine didn't end up getting delivered with my tcase (by the way, do not use Courier Please, they are literal trash). On-paper ratios for power benefit can be found on Auszookers: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=32700 Overall, my tacho is reading 4k for 100km/h for a car with 31" tyres. I used to have to shift gears constantly, eg. Driving from Syd to Brisbane would require constant shifting every couple hundred metres or so, I just did the trip today, and was in 5th the entire time I was on the highway #boxmoistening. I don't have a comparative low-range experience for you, unfortunately. However, I had plenty of play throughout the past month or so and was pretty much rallying through the bush #doubleboxmoistening. Please post/message me for further queries! |
