Post subject:  jimny carpet replacement

I had an incident when out playing my jimny got sunk to over the top of wheel eyebrow have 215/75 15 tyres, snorkel, anyway problem was inside of jimny filled with water took 5 minutes to pull out. So my problem is carpets are smelling musty even after a 3 months I left carpets in but pulled up sill plastics and put a piece of wood between floor and carpet backing so just want to know has anyone got an alternate to carpet as carpet will need to be changed like the old vinyl flooring thanks? Another concern is I have to put vent hoses on diffs, transfer, auto box the auto breather appears to be plastic has anyone put a nipple so hose can be attached if so how did you get old breather out is it pressed in glued screwed etc.

Pull the carpets entirely and then hang in the sun for several days.

The carpet in my sierra is absolutely rooted now but it doesnt stink. What most do who run regularly in mud and water (up here at least) is just run rubber floor mats over the top of the steel.

No idea on the auto tranny.... my brother's jim (the only jimny I have ever played with) is a manual.

No amount of time will clear the smell with the carpets still in the car. None.

Marko is on the money. Additionally though, the water gets in/under the bituminised sound deadening panels, and into every nook and cranny of the floor and continues to stink. The stink comes from the felt under the carpet, which takes FOREVER to dry.

Base model jimny's have rubber mats, but it will only fix part of the problem - water trapped under the mats will still get the stink on. I had a hilux that had litres of water trapped under the mats on purchase. It stank.

In my offroad cars I remove the flooring and sound deadening and run honeycomb rubber doormats. Water and mud drops through them and they stop it slopping around.
