Not difficult to split the box and reseal if you can spin a wrench. Follow the FSM for the disassembly procedure. Most of the work is getting it out of the car and back in.
While you have it apart spin the shafts and bearings. If it is noisy put a bearing and seal kit in it while you are there although that becomes more difficult (if you dont have the right tools and/or problem solving skills)
FWIW I had a small rubber bung, that sits beside the detent spring caps on the top of the box, fall out (top passenger side, ~120mm back from bellhousing) It used to flick oil out when running causing a bit of a mess.
