Hi this is really bugging me. I am 6 foot 3 and i simply love my new 2013 Zooki Jimny bought yesterday with 9500 ks. But i am really struggling to fit inside her. I have looked on the net all night and day and cant find anything except some guy in Denmark which was active on a forum 1 year ago. Is it really impossible to get my seat extended back a bit more. I believe it would dramatically make my experience 10x better with the car. Like seating rail extenders? im not sure but am losing it. Help is greatly appreciated! I am based in Melbourne, Vic. Thanks! |

Never heard of anything but it should be possible to make up something yourself. As a suggestion, looking at mine, I would use a 25mm square section with a thick wall. Place this underneath the existing rail. Bolt the square tube to the existing floor mounting points and then bolt the seat rails to the square tube but further back. This will also raise your seat by 25mm. Use high tensile bolts and washers. This should be structurally sound if the tube is the thickest walled material you can find. There are no doubt other ways to do it without raising the seat as well. Mike |

biggest problem you will have, is certifying it, and the fact the factory seats basically already push all the way back to the rear of the foot well. which brings up the next question, at 6'3"..... why a jimny ?? hahahah |

My GF is also 6'3" and fits in the car fine but she has really long legs and a short torso. I'm almost 6'2" and fit perfectly, so the Jimny (and my old sierras) are ok for tallish people, depending on proportions, for me I just have to move the angle of the seat back a couple of clicks and all good. If you need more legroom, then like Mike said, you should be able to adapt the seat back some more for legs, but not using box, a plate would be better to keep it low, do it well and dont worry about engineering. If you need lower you will need after market seats and rails. They need to mod plated as cops can be fussy about them. Come to the meeting this week. we can discuss. |

I saw a guy over here in NZ had had a shop make up some 50 X 5 plate about 100 mm long with holes 50 mm apart and pushed the seat back that way. His were certified for use here at a cost of ~$500 all up. I made something similar out of scrap and it works. I'm only 180 cm but have issues with cramp in legs at times. The extra stretch out was great. Compliance (like freight costs for us) is always the killer though. I'd be happy to use them superstitiously and swap them back every 6 months for our road worthy checks. Steve. |

I would be using angle as opposed to plate. Angle you can use thinner material as angle is stronger in bending than flat plate. I have done similar in the past, Cut off the bolt attachment tabs from the standard rail. weld piece of angle to each rail, make angle a bit longer on the front. re weld the attachment tabs onto the angle in the right spot. Have a look at the thickness of the steel that the rails are made of, its like 1.5mm thick steel. So a ~30 x 30 x 2mm angle on each side would be more than sufficient. |

I, personally, would worry bout engineering, tampering with a safety device is a touchy subject, any change to the seating rails will warrant a mod plate. just a thought. if its worth doing, its worth doing properly. good luck with it and keep us posted. |
