Replacing the rear axle seals and I come across something out of the norm and my workshop manual is absolutely no use in enlightening me. I did a bit of poke around on here but I can't seem to find a good photo showing down the tube or a good tech thread.
Obviously the wheel bearing kit only comes with one seal per side, but in the diff I removed it had 2 seals per side, and that holey disc thing, In fact it only had one when it suppose to have 1 per side but anyways, One seal was the standard replacement (with metal outer ring) and the other was all rubber with a metal spring type thing in it.
Also the one photo I did find showed the metal "outer ring" seal to be flush with the tube, but that would cause the "holy disc" to be loose. My guess is that the seal needs to be completely seated but should I use the rubber seal with spring as well, just for overkill sake?
Timely question buzbox Took mine out yesterday .. one seal was flush .. one was further in .. there is a slight lip for the seal suggesting flush may not be the right spot .. be interested in others opinion
Looking at how the holey disc just sits in there, I would say that it would sit further in to help keep it in place, which also gives enough space for another seal.
