if i still gave a shit about sound quality i'd be doing something like that, some quality speakers in the factory location & using the area you were looking at using in the back right hand corner build a vertical subwoofer enclosure that hugged the profile of the C pillar, inner wheel arch, floor, side panel & fill it with a quality 10" dual voice coil sub... right hand side cause that's the side the door hinges from so you won't be having to work around it all the time.

i hope that sub/amp combo is waterproof. :wink:

i installed some 6.5" 3 way speakers into the factory spots today:

standard hole is 5", so i made a speaker bracket on each side using approx 6mm mdf. the speaker is in upside down, but that's to clear the terminals. on one side & bottom of the bracket i had to cut the edge flat to match the shape of the car. there was enough clearance with the side panel replaced so it wasn't touching the speaker, but i still removed the lip on the inside of the panel with a rotary tool just to be sure.

i'm still keeping my eyes open for something like that as well though, may be better to have a regular sub/amp that i can remove easily though as i pretty much use under the seats for storing all my crap.

with the speaker & the spacer i'm guessing there was maybe another 2mm, so possibly 10mm all up.

they should drop straight in for you, will save a ton of trouble.

have you got speakers in the front ? i think the holes are only 4".

Hey guys so iv'e had a problem with my rear speakers for ages, and they really have just been all around a big pain in the ass. Mainly because i picked up a pair of cheap boxes for 6x9 speakers, that when 4wding kind of just flew around the back of the car, and damaging all the connections i made. < I Call them shitboxes < Their inability to stay put has broken two sets of speakers Anyway my idea was to mount the speakers in the side pockets, as i dont even use them and really its a perfect spot, much like this Anyone got suggestions on how to go about it? I've redone all the wiring/soldering and there is enough cable for each side and whatnot. Cheers, Cam

I have then in those rear vent things, with the fiberglass you just make a sketeton with mdf and put the special fiberglass cloth on it to get the shape and then apply the matting, then smooth with filler, probs not the right way but somthing like that

If you really want to get maximun audio fedelity, you can cut it out a bit more and put a 6x9 lol, i think best bet is what ill end up doing, if u have no rear seats, make a box behind the cup holders and get a 10" sub, they fit decently, you dont get that great of bass response with an active slimline sub, i have german mistero 4" crossovers with tweeters at the front and 4" rockerfostgates in the back, they work well, but if anything i need more mid then low, might make some boxes behind the seats and add some 6x9s

haha looks like ill be doing the underseat amp/sub, and using the two back speaker slots. Will sound good, and saves me from making boxes and taking up room in the back! Plus will be just as cheap!

Yeah I like too store my air compressor hose and whatnot under the seat, but if I got a small amp, probably wouldn't get in the way, and could still fit a few bits and pieces under there.

How much space do you reckon there is between the plastic side panel (when put back in place) and the cutout/speaker hole? considering doing the same with 6" but depth is my concern :/

Yeah got a pair of these little guys https://www.jbhifi.com.au/gps-car-audio ... ers/54257/ Nothing special, got them when i first got the jim, but they have done a good job! and sound is decent for 4" speakers, apart from a bit of rattling when volume is too high, when i redo the back ones, might try fix them in a bit tighter.
