Is it alright to use manual transmission fluid instead of oil? I've got some castrol vmx80 transmission fluid with nulon smooth additive laying around from the skyline. Will this be fluid be fine instead of getting gearbox oil?

Technically oil is a fluid... but semantics aside, in terms of what most people refer to in automotive circles, transmission "fluid" is used in automatics (the red shit) and gearbox "oil" is what is used in manual gearboxes (the amber shit).

I think he may be meaning Automatic Trans fluid which cant go in a manual.
VMX80 is more for front wheel drives or cars that have the Diff and transmision combined into the one unit. It prob will work but not sure how smooth shifting will be, prob will be ok. your 4x4 requires a 80w-90 so in that range.

VMX-80 is fine for the gearbox. They've updated their formula recently

VMX 80 will be fine to use. 75/85 for the gearbox and 80/90 for the diffs. 80/90s a bit thick for the syncro's
