Hi,

Can anyone tell me what the AVM manual hubs are like for a Jimny?
My factory auto locking hubs are not disengaging properly so am thinking of swapping them out.
ARB has quoted me $309 for both front hubs.

309 for a pair you mean? 242.66 + shipping from jimny bits fyi incase you were looking at other stuff to ship it together
The avm ones have a plastic centre you twist. Not a problem.
You can also get an adapter and use stock suzuki hubs from oldr models.

aren't AMV hubs are only good for saving a CV as they'll break before a CV... all well & good apart from the fact that you can't get replacement parts easy, do they also randomly fall off like the mile marker hubs?

:hey: Mr OP, search for "vitara locking nut" posts by jonno_racing.

pretty sure he uses the vitara locking nut assembly on the wheel bearing to eliminate the jimny set up & so you don't have to grind down the jimny one & then bolt up sierra FWH as if you were fitting them to a sierra, best thing about the aisin FWH is they share many common internal components with ALL aisin FWH, so you can potentially get spares from any japanese 4wd with aisin FWH.

Thanks Gecko, do they ones in the link just bolt straight on? Given that they are for a vit?

I have just found out about the Aisin hubs, my workmate has them on his Hilux. Does Aisin makes FWH that bolt straight onto a Jimny?

I don't want to be putting something like vitara hubs on, or spacers, or anything like that. I just want something that is a direct bolt on

With the spacer aisin are bolt on, which is the point of the spacer.
As far as im aware more people have baged out the avm hubs for various reasons then have actually had a problem letalone run them.

Which Aisin hubs do you refer to here and also where can I get a spacer?

lolwot, did you even bother to search for the info i suggested? i'd rather use factory parts than some random manufacture that is almost impossible to find spare parts for in a pinch.

and if you don't like the thought of putting vitara bits on your jimny then you can't use these AVM's as suggested by gecko-xl7 as they also suit a vitara, sierra & a samurai. :deadhorse: OMG

just seen the price, could buy many sets of aisin FWH's & have a life time of spare parts if you ever required them.... all for the cost of just a pair of AVM's

Before this thread I had absolutely no clue what would and wouldn't fit. Let me just put that out there. Obviously (now that I know what does and doesn't fit) if using the vitara hubs is the best way then I'll do that.

So (correct me if I am wrong) the Aisin hubs will require a spacer to work on a Jimny?

I have tried searching for that thread that you mentioned, couldn't see anything though. All I really need to know now is can I only run Aisin hubs for a (I'm assuming) sierra with a spacer. Surely someone has done it and can tell me

Just putting it out there... all i need to do is run vitara/sj80 bearing nut and retainer.. not a custom part. also allows me to use the bearing tool i already have and standard hub bolts that are common..
no custom bits. no adapters, just factory Suzuki parts. in fact this lets me to use 100% factory parts and NOT introduce custom parts/bolts etc.

As I am using FWH AND Sierra CV's I had to have quite a thick spacer, 16mm. The spacer is sealed and grub screwed to the locking hub, and sealed to the wheel hub. The 6 holes are a tight fit for minimal movement around studs (not bolts). These studs have a finer thread on the outside for better tightening.

When I had a rough cut 10mm spacer and bolts, I was always breaking bolts. The holes were too sloppy. I have not broken a stud with the new system since. Except to say I stripped the thread because I overtightened one when tensioning. They do need tensioning every so often.

My life lol.
You can go eiyher way its up to you nick.
If the aisin hubs are indeed stronger then a avm then its possible a avm may break if yo droped a spinning wheel onto a grippy surface. But ive done this a few times being unlocked and havent had any ill effects and I have the nockoffs of the avm hubs...

In saying that id prefer to break a hub and put a spare on then break a cv and not have a spare
Thing is you can pack out the old airhubs with grease so their drive flanges and bolt em back on if something did break.

I'll throw in my two cents worth.
I've been running the same set of refurbished used Sierra Aisin hubs for about 4 years. I used spacers from BigJimny.com and haven't had any problems with the setup. BenT has spacer rings for sale here
