So, I don't know whats the go with me and carburetors but they hate me. All i ever do is give them love and maybe some mud... maybe. but now I have a new issue. Lately when I am driving around and I get to a slight slope/hill/cliff/driveway/road, anywhere it feels like actually, mainly hills though, (i'm assuming) the bowl of the carby isn't filling up and thus the car doesn't get any fuel and looses all power, though i can pull over and 70% of the time it will still idle. Wait a minute or two and drive off for another 100 meters before it happens again. BUT! If I swing the car left to right going across the road and back, every time the car goes left it launches forward like a spray of fuel is going in...So this made me think that my float is stuck or not sitting right. It use to only happen when my tank got to about half full. or maybe that was just a coincidence... So I have run a bottle of carby cleaner down it and also through the fuel line going towards the carby but with no luck, problem still persists. Do I need to open up the carby to get to the float/ bowl or would spraying carby cleaner in every spot I can get it into from the top reach the bowl? Maybe its not the float in the carby? Could my fuel pump be flogged? or anything else you could recommend I try? Thanks Thomas

I'd start by replacing the fuel pump these are becoming troublesome as sierras are ageing. |

Yeah, Just thought it was weird that when I swung the car it got power again for a short burst. The 4WDProducts on ebay fuel pump any good?? OR could you recommend one to me. |

I've been warned away from aftermarket pumps by someone who used to sell them. He only recommended genuine pumps. This is someone who is not shy of selling third party parts. Steve. |

If it still plays up, try taking off air cleaner (and centre bolt) warm it up, rev the crud out of it then block the carby with your hand.... leave throttle open as it winds down, then remove hand.... repeat as necessary... it sucks any crud out of the jets.... worth a try, saved me a few times

what about fuel filter... if its blocked ,,you wont get enough fuel...could even be a blockage from the fuel pickup in the tank, had 1 like that in my boat, took ages to find it |

I thought it could be that because i'm using a different tank now i put a hole in my first one. |

Mine started missing bad..Cleaned carby, new cap rotor, leads and plugs...no good. Turned out to be a dirty connection on the wire from the coil. Do all the easy things first. Wish I had. bye |

Okay so new fuel pump in. Continues to happen! I have cleaned te carby but need to pull it apart to focus on the float. May do that tomorrow. All new leads, plugs, cap and rotor a month ago. I'll check the connections, but definately feels like a fuel problem. Any more ideas? |

damagera wrote: what about fuel filter... if its blocked ,,you wont get enough fuel... Silly question, but have you replaced the fuel filter? I had similar symptoms and it was fixed by a new filter, I cut the old filter apart and it looked like it had ten years worth of sludge in it. In particular, my symptoms were going up hills and revving high were impossible, idle and low revs were ok, no acceleration and missing, replaced the filter and revved freely throughout the rev range and no problem going up hills |

Perhaps you've got a kink somewhere in the fuel line? |
