well its starting again, since i put extractors on my jimny, every now and then the engine warning light comes on,
soon as i hook the jimny to the computer it says o2 senser problem..
ive tried 3 different sensors, changing the sensor position in the extractor, deeping the sensor in the extractor
but still engine warning light comes on..
it goes into limp mode and uses twice as much petrol

anyone had same problem or have any ideas ??????

Sure it hasn't got an exhaust leak upstream of the O2 sensor?

had it checked and muffler place said no leak,
it can go 3 or 4 months and good then it will come on 3 or 4 times over a few days until i wipe the computer
normally lasts another 3 or 4 months

Is the sensor angled down a little to prevent condensation building up on it?

Depending on what model jimny, there could also be 2 O2 sensors, one on the extractors and another down near the cat

Space the sensor off from the extractor should stop it.

Iv had a similar problem after putting a larger more free flowing exhaust in my Lancer. the problem was cause of the new exhaust the gas amount was increased going over what the sensor was set up to see, spacing it off reduces the amount that the sensor sees so you can get it back to what it use to be

if that doesn't work then no idea. but its worth a try

monley had a similar problem with his M13 Jimny & extractors, something to do with a lack of an egr pipe on the headers. :?

not 100% on this as I dont have extractors or this problem but...
if you look at the extractors suzi store offer http://www.suzistore.com.au/shopexd.asp?id=1857 <<< there
you will see a small pipe coming from the exhaust manna-fold out of pot no. 4

pretty sure this is the EGR and the cause of your problems as (I think) in your case it doesn't exist.

I would check that with someone else before doing anything though.

what are you using to get the o2 code? is it possible you are mis-diagnosing the check fault? have you done the paperclip trick to get the light to flash the code?

This sounds like a similar problem I'm having at the moment, because mine is throwing out the check engine light and chewing a shit load of fuel and is a bit sluggish. Need to get someone to check the code to fix them problem soon.

Do Jimmy's have a single wire sensor?

Perhaps the sensor is borderline too far from the engine to heat up properly.

 probably should have looked at that photo more closely, if it's a heated sensor that won't be the problem.

long time not made a post but have some info you might be interested in,
after about a year or more of o2 sensor problems to do with my extractors... changing sensors, moving the sensor, putting it on a dyno
the engine warning light coming on when I use 95 or shit petrol
I found a 02 sensor eliminator

http://www.magnumtuning.com/en/detail/a ... zuki/jimny

its been a month now and no warning light.. will keep u up to date

Not sure if it is totally frowned upon to resurrect an old thread like this, was just wondering if you could comment on the installation of this beastie?

I'm having almost exactly the same troubles as you; I stumbled on that product last night and it's looking like the go but I have no idea if I could manage the install myself - where did you splice it in?

Hi Darkness, resurrect if it helps.. well I had a mate who installs car stereos wire mine for me, he looked at the diagram they give and wired it in in about 6 minutes, I think any auto electrics guy would do it for you just as quick..

it works a treat, when I took it to Suzuki and put it on the computer after fitting, showed all codes perfect, ECU always gets perfect signal
ive never had an red engine light on in the dash since I fitted it.. Jimny has run like new

Injectors all ok? Not throwing too little or too much fuel in? Also maf sensor not having troubles? Just taking a crack that maybe fuel or air mixture is too lean or rich causing the o2 to play games?

I only wish I knew how to check, Cal. My OBD2 diagnostic from the jimny seems to give me a lot less info than most other cars i've tried it on. Doesn't smell rich, mileage is as expected if I drive like a grandma but chaotically abysmal if I rev out every gear and go foot to the floor all the time.

The problem that you will get with the eliminator is that the ECU won't self-tune so it will go out of tune as it wears. You don;t have a MAF so it won't be that, what do your fuel trims look like? if you can plot the diagnostics then check how long it takes for the O2 to hit closed-loop, that will give you an indication of how well the heater is working. With the engine fully warmed and from start-up it should hit closed-loop in around 25seconds.
The later Jimnys support EOBD but to get all the information from the ECU you need a Suzuki scan tool that can access the 'OBD1' datastream.

Perhaps the problem is the O2 sensor isn't mounted on the correct angle? Have a read of this http://wbo2.com/lsu/lsuinstal.pdf - it's hard to tell from the previous extractor picture if the sensor is mounted horizontally (ie. incorrectly) or the sensor tip has the required downwards angle?

It could also be worthwhile checking the sensor earthed is okay. It should be earthed through one of the wires (being a 4 wire sensor), but you never know. (I had problems on a single wire O2 sensor after fitting extractors due to the sensor no longer being adequately earthed.)
