| Post subject: | Suspension - what do you have? |
Hey guys, Looking to upgrade the suspension on my zook, have all standard springs atm, unknown brand shocks (how i bought it), rear springs are starting to wrap as the previous owner has SPOA. Also rides like a piece of shit, worse than other zooks i have been in. Question is, what are you running? not looking for a comp build, just general to some hard use, good ride/good flex. Been looking around and with so many brands out there its hard to know what to choose. Show me what you have got also any brands, products to stay away from? RUF will be done as soon as i get the springs and also moving the rear shock mounts up and angling them in a little. Thanks in advance. |

perhaps take some pics of your suspension set up and the rig in general? If its currently SPOA still, and running lifted leaves its going to drive terribly... sagged springs in SPOA config are awesome so long as your shocks are sized correctly (and firm enough) and you have some sort of anti-wrap bar. If its been converted back to SPUA on the same leaves as what were in it SPOA its probably still pretty good if not just riding low - but you might be hitting the bump stops and the shocks may be bottoming out giving you a crap ride. |

He says his springs are standard and starting to wrap, which as I understood is different to sagged which every second sierra has, and bad for the spring. Can't be good. My suspension is blupac springs slightly de rated and Garbriel's CJ jeep shocks. No RUF. Done by previous owner, and compared to some setups far from ideal. The ride isn't too rude, although I drove slower than many people on rough roads, at highway speed on road its great, low speed you get a bit of pitching. Awesome with a trailer actually. To the OP, If I were to put some attention to my suspension, I'd run Old Man Emu rears all round, RUF and whatever length shocks needed to suit wheel travel and the ends. Somebody might be able to suggest a quality make shock for you and what is commonly used. |

If its been converted back to SPUA on the same leaves as what were in it SPOA its probably still pretty good if not just riding low - but you might be hitting the bump stops and the shocks may be bottoming out giving you a crap ride. currently not SPOA, and i dont want to put it back, so keeping it SPUA, the rear springs are bent the wrong way and starting to wrap, so will be replacing Ive heard good reviews about Old man emus, and tough dog aswell, but also a seen a few bad reviews about tough dog so was leaning towards old man anyway, what about shocks, any particular band make a better quality shock than the others? |

If you are going to do some fab work, run some old man emu n76 shocks. You'll need to make new shock mounts front and rear... But according to a few blokes on here they are a good shock. Or you can run hilux/commo shocks and ex stems bumps to suit |

I think the general consensus on here is OME leaves are a foolproof option... Most people dump a leaf or two out of the pack to soften the ride and bring down the height a little. If you current springs are that sagged that they're inverted, going to a standard height leaf is going to see you riding a fair bit higher let alone a 2" lifted spring =) As i said above - given they are that sagged you're probably hitting the bump stops which is giving you a choppier ride also. |

Blupac is comfy but longevity is not its strong point. I like efs 65mm minus a leaf or two |
