Just wondering if anyone has run 4.9 transfer gears with 4.3 diff gears on 33's
still gathering a few bits and bobs for my spare parts build.

I want to have it on vit ratio's so I have the option to run a vit rear diff if required
but I still want good road gearing, hence the 4.3's
and running this combo give a good torque divide bettween the tcase and diffs

I vaguely remember a bit of chatter about 4.3's being weak? Truth or rumour?
Other reason for the 4.9 tcase is im soon to have one as a spare due to some changes that are going to happen to my lwb

cheers

Hi pezz,

whilst I haven't run that combination myself, I smashed those numbers into my gearing calculator and that looks like a very happy combination.

Based on a full height 33" tyre, I get 3684 rpm @ 100 km/h and 77:1 crawl. If your chosen 33's are actually 32", add 100rpm to the cruise figure.

If you are planning to stay with a 1.3 I'd say that's all cool. If you are looking at a 1.6, I'd say you don't need to spin quite that fast, so 3.9's or 4.1's would be fine in the diffs, but as you pointed out, that precludes running a vitara rear diff.

The 4.3 pinions have 10 teeth and from memory the pinion teeth are thinnest out of the all the combos.
However, the 4.3 is factory fitment (in the manual) on the two most powerful engines suzuki have release in their heaviest 4x4s.
The 2.5L v6 which is 116 kW and 213 Nm, and 2.7L V6 is 138kW, 250Nm
Way more poke than the g16b, let alone the g13a.

I was looking at 4.3 diff gears, and have been collecting sets. I would use them, and was very much considering the transfer ratios you are looking at.
Id probably still use them in a 1.6, and they would be good if you plan to go aw4, without going to bigger tyres.

If you want to compare and do a bench top analysis to gauge tooth dimensions etc, I have a few sets of 4.3s, and a 4.625 from GV fronts and a sierra 3.7

Plan is to run this with a g13 from a jimny, so no major power or torque really, hope to run a auto with it too.
still gathering bits before anything happens with it
aim is a stock looking zook with big rubber and low wieght
then go wheeling with heaps of tough trolls and stick it to them :)

Check the overdrive gearing of the auto you want to run- you might be able to go to 4.57 or 4.65. Autos generally have a taller top gear than the Sierra manual.
