Hi guys. Looking to source a Sunraysia rim for my Sierra to use as a spare. Looking to fit it up with 215/75/15 Maxxis 753 tread like the rest of my wheels. Just wondering what the optimum rim width is for this sized tyre? I think i'm currently on 15 x 5.5 rims. I've made a few calls and Suzistore can sell me a used 15 x 5.5 factory rim for $50, or I could skip them and buy a brand new rim like in the link below for just a few clams more. If I do buy a new rim I hope you guys can help with offset advice too.

When time comes to replace the current tyres i'll need to get these rims sand blasted and powder coated, so it might be cheaper/better in the long run to replace them with something off the shelf. I figure it'll cost at least $50 per rim to refurb them, which is on par with the cost of a new rim.


What would you suggest is the best plan of attack? Buy a new rim, or stick with the factory issue?

Well do you like round rim holes (lol) or triangular ones?

I'd probably get some new sunnies if you're going to spend that much cash fixing the old ones.

Some tyre places wont fit them to a 15x5.5 and will ask for 15x6s.

Have you asked around about sandblasting? Get some quotes. You might be surprised. Pretty sure joe said he got his done for $30 a wheel. There's also the tightarse method of going over them with a wire wheel on an angle grinder and painting them with spray cans. It'l only cost a few dollars but it takes forever and it sucks.

I'd just get some new 15x6s, life will be much easier, then you can keep your old ones as spares or sell them off.

Did that last time. The Killrust held on OK for a couple of years but I noticed yesterday the amount of surface rust on them is really beginning to accelerate. It's time to get them done properly or get rid of them.


I think I will get some 15x6s - I might be able to cut a better price if I buy 5 rims. Any idea what sort of offset I need?

Also, can you refit old tyres to new rims or does removing them fuck their bead up? I think these tyres are about two years old.

I don't think you'l get better results out of cheap sunnies. The ones on my Sierra (15x7, $62 from tyre power) aren't even 18 months old yet and there's noticeable rust breaking through the paint. I don't think I've ever even cleaned them and it's usually not garaged, still not a great result though. They're white so it's a lot more noticeable than black. I drove a lot of sand but I never had it on the beach IIRC. Dunes stretch for KMs before they even get within sight of the beach here.

Rust guard has a 5 year guarantee against rust if you prep them properly, that's about what I'd expect out of some powder coated ones too.

Yeah, you can swap tyres between wheels. It takes a real monkey to stuff the bead up. If I was you I'd get some new tyres and wheels and sell your old ones. Should be able to get a decent amount for them. :)
