Iv heard the largest engine you can put in a sierra is a 2.4l in qld ...has any one got any info ? Is there anything in the tech Centre

According to the NCOP:
max engine cc = weight (kg) x 5
Turbo engines are less. 3x I think.

read it again. The section you are refering to states:

"For certification purposes under Codes LA1, LA2, LA3 and LA4, the recommended maximum
capacity (swept volume) of engines for passenger cars and passenger car derivatives is outlined in
Table LA1 below. An engine may not be a suitable replacement even if its capacity falls within the
limits specified in Table LA1. Owners are therefore advised to check details of a proposed engine
conversion with an engineering signatory prior to commencing any work."

There is no blanket rule anymore. The signatory must determine if the vehicle meets the requirements checklist before signing off that modification. Given this, I think you'll find it hard to get an engineer to sign off on a 4.7L (950kgx5) engine in a sierra. :roll:

In WA the limit used to be a 1.8L engine without a brake upgrade - not sure if that's changed though... but you can do a 1.6 without a brake upgrade for sure. Brake upgrade = engineering.

2.7 GV motor, ive been told by the engineer that he would pass it provisionally.

im not actually doing this swap at this stage though

I'm with alien. Some extra cross members would be required IMO. Even though the H27 only puts out 130kw and 250Nm ( which IMO makes it a ridiculous venture ) its still almost 3 times the power and 2.5 times the torque of the engine the chassis was designed for.

cross members? as in how?

i wondered whether i should do similar to the LJ ute but dont really know what should be added that would help.

specially as im planning in racing it too

What do you mean 'How'? Beef up the front and rear ones, Box in the centre body mount member, add a decent gearbox crossmember (something like patrols etc run but in a more suzuki friendly package )

LJ chassis would be even worse.

ahh ok so just cross members would be enough.

i was half asleep thinking rails should be braced lengthwise

i have added some good strength to the body crossmambers and have a good solid gearbox crossmember and replaced the front tube with something beefier

I don't think laminating the rails will do all that much.

Gussetting the existing crossmembers would prolly help too... i reckon you'd have to laminate / fisch plate all around the new engine mounts too.
