Post subject:  HELP- transfer options for my 1.8L turbo Jimny

Hey guys,

Just after some info, could probably find it on here somewhere but don't really have to time to look. My Jimny transfer has stretched it's chain and is skipping teeth thus I'm looking to fit a different transfer.

I'm currently running 4.1 diff gears and a 1:1 ratio transfer on 30" tyres (32" simex for play), I don't mind going back to a 1.3 : 1 transfer but don't want to go any lower as the car is regularly street driven, just want something A LITTLE stronger than the Jimny transfer

QUESTION 1
What's the difference between the 1L and 1.3L Sierra transfer cases?

QUESTION 2
Do you think the gear driven Sierra transfers are stronger than the chain driven Coily/Jimny transfers?

QUESTION 3
Other options such as Range Rover, Landcruiser etc

Don't mind fabricating stuff, after your ideas

1. Nothing. Just ratio.

2. Marginally

3. These are considerably larger.

1. What are the actual ratios for each? Have heard the 1.3L are like 1.39:1 or something

2. Doesn't need to be heaps stronger, as it was just the chain that stretched

3. What are these out of etc, so I can search some info on them

Cheers heaps

Missing the letters g, o, l, e from your keyboard? :D

1.0 case: High 1.58, Low 2.51
1.3 case: High1.409, Low 2.27

I don't know what/where you drive so I can't comment on strength, however, if you haven't broken CV's, axles or R&P's yet, I'd say you're only just touched on what's going to break. I think all that stuff will frag well before a sierra transfer.

Landcruiser transfers aren't divorced and I know of no kit to convert them to divorced. high range gearing will suck for you.
There is an adapter kit to convert a rover transfer (LT230) to divorced, and there are lots of gear ratio options.
I believe there are kits/instructions to convert a hilux transfer to divorced, but the gearing is unhelpful in high range and the rear diff is centred.
There are nissan patrol cases which are divorced, but they also have poor high range gearing.

Sounds like he is worried about sierra case strength.

Thanks heaps guys, Im just after something a little stronger than Jimny unit, Im generally pretty easy on driveline gear and we really only do beach work, the 1.8L makes 185rwhp on 7psi boost.

I'll rebuild a 1.3L transfer, brace it up, make some mounts and try running it, cheers

If it helps, I run a sierra transfer behind a 170hp CA18, running 34's. I have broken an input gear, however it was an aftermarket 6.5:1 gearset, which have been known to break. I have mine in a Roktoy ring. I would assume running standard gears, and smaller tyres would be stronger, correct me if I am wrong.

I was following the build up from the start, thats some good power from just 7psi. Any pics?

think that would be the eassiest path for you, but even easier should be to get the ORA conversion kit http://www.offroad-armory.com/store/ind ... uct_id=213

not too expensive, save you the trouble to build it, plus with this new design they added more mounting points, seems pretty beef up for me
