SJ80 G13BA Im having an issue with my sierra not wanting to idle. Ive done everything (cleaned tank, new filters, leads, dizzy and rotor. Seems to be ok now after finding some water in the fuel. But all of a sudden when i turn my headlight switch the revs climb up to 2000 then it varies up and down from 2000 to 2500rpm. I have adjusted carby to idle when i had stalling issues. I have heard there is a function that advanced the rpm to power the headlights but this seems a bit high. Any thoughts? |

I've got that issue as well atm with my g13ba. Since I got the car, it's always 500 rev increase if I turn on Air con, headlights, or even just parker lights. No effect with the stereo unless I blast it max volume then it might go up 50-100 revs Replaced the battery, still does it. Hopefully with the new engine, the EFI won't feel the need to do that. I mean, the battery is massive for the system it's powering. Maybe it's just the alternator is underpowered? Plan on doing the 110a swap soon once the GTI engine is in. |

Also has 110amp upgrade and charging around 13.5v to 14v Is the idle up solenoid on the front? Two wires solenoid with rubber boot and presses on arm joined across to trottle arm? |

I disconected the white plug going to it and the solenoid still pushes back and fourth on the arm. Just going to back the screw off and away so it cant change the revs. While were talking about carbys i now need to adjust the idle screw and mixture screw, both the screws on the right side of the carby (facing the rocker cover) were played with to make the engine idle. So the screw thats only accesable when lifting up the trottle arm is what? And what is the long screw just back from that on the same side? Would be good to know how many turns from closed the mixture screw should be and which one it is. |

It was water in the tank, gave it a flush out and changed filters and added another filter near the engine. Next was the problem with rpm rising and dropping over and over again, i disconnected the white plug at the front of the carby. This made it idle roughly and die when revved. So i reconnected the plug and backed off the nut you can see under the solenoid using a 10mm spanner. This will stop the revvs climbing and dropping. Then i adjusted the screw on the arm behind that 10mm nut and got it so revs would rise a few 100rpm. The other problem was mixture screw had to be turned down. Now it idles at 800rpm and 1000rpm with headlights on. |
