Battery has had its day, 10.9V - surprised it started last time i tried. (alternator seems to be working, volts came up to 13.6 after start)
Haven't got a dual battery yet, hoping to get a new battery tomorrow,
What's a good dual purpose deep cycle / start battery with reasonable life for the $ ?
Optima yellow top looks the goods, but haven't got real life - cycle info, to ponder if its worth the money.
What sort of life has been achieved from Optima yellow top batteries in this regime ?
Anybody used them as a direct replacement battery, what size fits the GV, looks like the D35 will be a bolt in proposition ??
If there are any other batteries that need to be mentioned I'm all ears?
Regards GV6

^^ what they said.
Whilst Optima's aren't quite as good as they used to be (apparently) I still rate them as about the best battery money can buy. I've had three and they're the only battery I'd spend my money on.

I'll fourth the Optima. I've had a little D51R Yellow Top for 3 years now as my only battery. Vits/GVs can fit a substantially bigger one than that, only reason I got that size is they were half price at the time. Runs the Engel for days without an issue. Also has been run completely flat numerous times by accident but hasn't affected it in the slightest.
Thought it might have been on the way out just recently as my GV has been going flat over a few weeks period, but had the battery shop test it and it is good as ever (cranked out 600CCA when its only rated for 450CCA new).

I got 4 years out of a red top exide deep cycle cranking battery. Ran it dead flat at least 20 times and it recharged fine. Was a 58 amp jobbie.

have had optima bluetops for years, never let me down, wouldn't buy anything else anymore. got a waeco deep cycle hooked up in the back of the vit to run the fridge and still running a cheap marshall item under the bonnet (came with the car) but when that dies i'd be going for the optima again. well worth the $$$ imo.

Local shop is pushing the SuperCharge "allrounder" which is about $230. Only has a 12 moth warranty, so not confident in it's life, but I won't be deep cycling it every day, only a week here, a week there, every few months and it is a daily driver.
I've had Supercharge's normal "Gold" calcium battery in a Van which got a few deep discharges in its life and got 5 years from it, they have a 3 year warranty, but not sure if they recover well from heavy Depth of Discharge, which is why I was considering a dual purpose starter / deep cycle.
What life are you getting from optima's before replacement ?

I got 3 years out of my Supercharge Allrounder. When inquiring about a replacement the Supercharge salesman thought 3 yrs was pretty good. I ended up going for a marine battery instead bought from Whitworths, which surprisingly was the cheapest place i could find.

Optima battery will cost you about $300-$350 and come with a 5 year warranty. They dont suffer from discharge issues like normal batteries Worth every cent....
