Howdy all

I noticed while have the vitara off the ground that i have a little play in my front wheel bearings, well as farvas i know its the bearings and im looking for some advice on which part to actually buy

Do i buy just the bearings or the hub kit bearing thingy?

Is it much of a job
Im no mechanic but ive handled the head,cv joints, and some suspension components so far but justbdont know how to go about it

Help would be appreciated

Cheers

Not sure if there is a how to on here for it but they are simple if you have the tools
You need a kit with the seals as well
Youll do a lot better to buy the special hub socket from BenT on here
Youll also need internal and external circlip pliers and a press

Jack up and remove the wheel
remove the free wheeling hub and the circlip that holds the CV in
remove the brake caliper and rotor
undo the little lock screws on the circular nut holding the hub on and remove the lock ring
using the special tool undo the retaining nut, its very very very tight

pull the hub off, sometimes needs some help with a little hammer
put the hub on a benc wheel studs down, lever the seal out and youll see the big circlip, pull it out
then support the hub in a press and press the old bearing out through the side the circlip is on, I just push the press against the inner race
to fit the new bearing flip the hub and support it so its not pushing on the studs and sit the new bearing in place DO NOT USE THE PRESS DIRECTLY ON THE BEARING
I use the old bearing outer race and some flat steel for the press to push against so you are pushing the new bearing in by the outer which wont damage it, go slowly and make sure it goes in square
put the circlip and new seal in and refit to the car, do the nut up really really really really tight and assemble the rest

Some people suggest to buy the complete hub assembly. If you do double check it suits your vit because there isn't a hub assembly made for all vits from what i could see.
I bought the bearing, took my hub apart to the point where the old bearing needed to be pressed out then gave it to someone with a press. Pretty easy process and i had never changed a wheel bearing before
