hi i have a 2001 jimny a few months ago i was driving back from town and my revs started to shutter (over 3500rpm) done a bit of research on here apparently it seams like its a common problem with the crank or cam sensor. all well and good, as i was towing my boat home (fairly solid boat bout 1000kgs) at 80km doing just over 3000rpm its done it again but the check engine light came on and didnt wanna idle. got the boat and car home eventually i have got one of the sensors (crank angle sensor) just have to change it now... just don't wanna go in there rippin plugs out that i don't know what they are! thanks |

nah no oil'l come out mate, its above sump level. should be able to access it with a 6" extension and a socket. may have to loosen off the alternator off at worse, i cant remember if i did or not last time i played with mine. Its pretty obvious when you shine a torch back there, tis the only thing with a wire going to it down there. |

Yeah, its the sensor just behind the alternator an no oil will come out when you remove it. From memory its a 10mm socket and its a prick to get to because the bolt is below the sensor and access is shielded by the alternator. I ended up needing a series of sockets, extensions and a uni joint and got it off without having to move the alternator although it would be easier to get to if you just loosen the alternator and swing it out of the way. - Tim. |
