Hey does anyone know how to test this Mitsubishi power unit? Or a 3 pin dumb ignitor in general? I'm having trouble with my gti conversion running an msd digital 6 plus and ems stinger. Would really appreciate any help, as I've been struggling for ages, really hoping it is the power unit that is dead, as it is the cheapest to replace :S

When you re-install make sure you use heat-sink grease on the mounting surface or it will not last long. |

It might help a bit if we knew what car we are dealing with and what your problem is |

Hey, thanks for the help More details: the car is a sierra running a mk3 gti engine, recently rebuilt with high comp pistons, ported/polished head and big cams, cultus manifold, sr20 throttle body, turbosmart fuel pressure reg, msd digital 6 ignition with blaster 3 coil and controlled by EMS stinger 4244 computer. I wired everything up a while ago and had it all running, then pulled it apart to clean it all up and I think I wired the crank angle sensor wrong. Ever since then I haven't been able to get it to start, simply no spark. I've tested the MSD computer and coil, they work. Tested the ignitor and it works. That leaves the crank angle sensor or the EMS stringer as far as I can tell. The msd ignition computer doesn't seem to be getting a signal to send the spark. How sensitive are crank angle sensors? could wiring it in wrong have fried it? |

I am no expert on these at all but I would think yes you can fry them - I don't have a manual for the type of CAS you have so do not know the testing procedure - You need to get a look at the manual of take it (The sensor) to an Auto elec to test. |

bob9909 wrote: I think I wired the crank angle sensor wrong. Is this the twelve pointed type in the distributor? How was it wired? they are usually fairly robust and can be wired up backwards without a problem. Aftermarket ECUs don't tend to be as robust as OE items though so any mis-wiring there could cause problems. |
