My '87 has been through two RWC without one, but a fitter told me it's quite a big fine if caught in roadside check.

bye

Technically an 86 model petrol 4wd isn't required to run a cat conv. but seeing as everyone now uses unleaded fuel I think every petrol vehicle should have a cat fitted.

Ok so I don't NEED one I should just have one on.
The system has a cat but its straight off the back
of the Extractors and the cat hits the chassis rail
So that's why I wanted to know if I had to have one

if it runs as bad as most carby g13's a cat would be stuffed in about 10mins flat un burnt fuel will kill their coating

so you're running a GTI motor? If you are you need to legally run a cat.
