I don't really understand timing at all, so I am not working on the car myself, but what should timing be for a G16b?

I just had my timing belt/pump/pulley/etc done. Mechanic told me it was set to 18, he has now set it to 5. Car was running fine when it was set to 18, I pick it up this afternoon, so I haven't driven it to see how differnt it is.

Is there a huge differnce between 5 and 18 (please don't say "13"!:p ) Is it possible that the mechanic has done it wrong, or is it more likely that it was on 18, and I just never had any issues?

What would I expect to notice if he has done it wrong? Will the car just run terrible? or is it something more subtle?

Cheers
Chris

5 is the factory spec for where timing is supposed to be and I'm sure he wouldn't reset the timing to run like shit and then give it back to you. If he has done something wrong the engine will ping (its noticeable and he would change it) or it will have a lack of berries if the timing is to retarded. It sounds like the timing was so high to correct for a problem someone did before. Now your mechanic has fixed the problem and returned the timing to what it should be.

x2.

Mine was set about 10deg BTDC when I got it and the throttle response felt a bit poor at low RPM - even with 98RON fuel. It's much nicer to drive at the factory 5deg BTDC.
