Post subject:  Calmini springs too soft?
Like the topic says...


I knew they were soft when I got them however.

If I drive my vit in 1st gear 4wd LR, I find the arse end squats and it picks the front end up... No wheels off the ground but it is a freaky sensation...

Has anyone else had the same issue?

Has anyone opted for different springs for the back?

Tough dog, fairly large bore, they are a custom length jobby from Penrith off road ware house, I think from memory they were for a land cruiser, I'd have to get the model number off the tomorrow.

They are overkill for a zookie

ahh cool, so they're a gas pressurised shock, not the calmini ones. 8)

mine squats a bit, but it seems normal to me. darky runs a GV tough dog rear spring, i ordered the calmini GV ones but haven't run them yet.

:lol: yep, that was my thought - preaching to the converted!

My Cal springs (if the fronts are any indication) were flogged out, but one passenger in the back and they'd just collapse.

Tough Dog GV Springs are working quite well so far, TD shocks were harsh but Ranchos seem to suit OK.

Short answer is yes, Cal springs are too soft in the back, especially for a LWB. Look at GV options, especially if you are planning to carry any weight behind the front seats. ;)

GV springs don't fit correctly on a LWB Vit, the top coil is wound tighter.

Haha fair enough, what sort of ride height will I be looking at running them, would I have to run a Spring spacer?

My Vit stopped squatting as much after fitting the ball joint spacer on the rear suspension.
It still keeps wheels on the ground, mostly :)

If wheels are staying on the ground, that is a good thing.

It will take time to adjust to the feeling.

Mine runs OME suspension, but with Dobinsons front struts

Haha well when I had two blown shocks it used to pick the front wheel up about 500mm off the ground

Too my mates I say : it's got way too much power

To be honest : it's got really soft could and had some really shitty blown shocks...

The TD GV shocks fit - they are tight around the top mount (have to shake the shit out of them to get them off, but brightside is that they stay in place if you over-extend.) Issue would be easily fixed with a 10mm spacer depending on how the ride heights ended up.

Ride height matched my used Calmini fronts - will update when the new OME/Dobinson front springs go in soon.
